Meet the Simovitchs

It occurred to me that Arcturus never met Betty's parents and since they were starting to get serious about this whole thing, I sent him over to meet them. Betty answered the door and invited him in. She started to go upstairs and Arcturus asked "Oh, are your parents up there?". She was like, "Huh? No." as she continued going up. Her reaction to his arrival was basically, "Well, here you are. Do what you need to do."

Arcturus was going to follow her upstairs anyway but heard someone in the kitchen. He decided to find out who it was because this was one of the reasons why he was here, after all. The woman in the kitchen turned out to be Betty's mother, Fatima Simovitch. She looked like an old Betty, which was pretty cool. Arcturus was so glad to finally meet Fatima. If he only knew that she was thinking about how he looked like a fool. Arcturus gets that a lot from people, if you haven't noticed.

"Who are you? How did you get in?"

While they were chatting, another woman walked into the room. I think it was Betty's sister. Her name is Shirley Lin though so maybe she's a half-sister or something. Arcturus introduced himself to her and then touched her inappropriately. (There are times when I think, "Should I put this on the blog? It makes him look really bad.") Anyway, Shirley just stared at him as she thought of her sister. He was like, "Is this fine?" It wasn't. It really was not "fine".

Hey, why is your thumb in her waistband, man!?

After that moment passed, Arcturus walked over to Betty's other sister(?), Roxie Lin, who was working on the computer. Roxie is a witch, of course. Judging by all the other crazy crap going on in this town, Arcturus wondered if he was going to meet a third sibling that was a centaur. Briefly after Arcturus introduced himself to Roxie, she ran out the door and flew down the street on a broom.

"Ha. What a fool."
Left in such a rush that she forgot to put shoes on.

Arcturus went to the bathroom. In the meanwhile, Betty's dad, Vadim, came home and went straight to bed. I wasn't going to have Arcturus come back another day to meet Vadim so I just told him to go wake the old man up. Arcturus had to sneak into the room and be all quiet so that he didn't wake Fatima.

"Pssst. Sir. Wake up."

"Should I tell him about my trip to France?" Arcturus thought. I thought, "He'd rather be asleep. No." Normally a stranger gently shaking you awake would lead to trouble, but Vadim took it really well. They did chat for a good deal of time before Fatima woke up from the noise and told Arcturus to get the hell out of her bedroom.

"Arcturus, you're a great guy but let's get real."

So, where was Betty? Arcturus had to find her because there was a more important reason for coming over than just meeting her parents. He walked around the quiet house until he found her bedroom. She was sitting on her bed, reading. Arcturus peeked his head in and said, "You want to go for a walk?" She looked up. "Arcturus, you're still here?" she asked. Then after a big sigh, she said, "Yeah, sure. Let's go. But take all the stuff you came here with because I'm not letting you in when we get back."

Arcturus didn't tell Betty where they were going which was great because she didn't ask. They only walked a short distance though before Arcturus told her to stop. They were standing in the place where they had first met. "I remember this place!" she said. Arcturus put his fingers in her face. "Shhhh! You're killing it."

That first meeting...
...really went places.
He finally got that hug he so desperately wanted that first night.

She puts up a stink sometimes but she really does like this weird man. Look how excited she is in that video. After the hugging and making out stopped, he walked her back home. She said, "I was serious about you not coming in" as she slowly closed the door in his face. Then she opened the door real quick, said she was kidding, invited him in, had sex with him for a while, Arcturus cried, I dunno, I think he passed away during the night.

Things That Happened...

Ahilac, the alien woman, sent Arcturus a letter a while ago. It said,
"I know this might surprise you, but I'm just crazy about you. I think we should get together and see what happens."
Arcturus thought about the implications and cried. He forgot to call her and tell her that "getting together" scared him. So, after a few days went by, Ahilac came over to visit. She just walked in and sat down on the couch. Arcturus was making food in his undies and gave her a wave, hoping she didn't remember writing that letter. [Editor's note: Oh wait, how did she send mail from space?] Ahilac decided to play video games while Arcturus made food. She moved the controller around like a mofo but had forgot to turn the television on. She's an alien, guys, so she doesn't know what the hell she's doing with Earth stuff.

Why is that book glowing?

Finished with the dinner that he didn't even invite Ahilac to, Arcturus sat down on the couch next to her to read. After noticing her repeatedly punch the controller and move it around like she was being filmed for a sitcom, he turned the television on. "Check that out," he said, "There are pictures involved." Ahilac didn't miss a beat. It was all the same to her. Eventually, I made Arcturus join her in playing and they had some fun for a while. They chatted about work, colors and music until Ahilac put down her controller and had an alien seizure, of sorts.

I don't know what's going on in this video. I tried to look up what was happening to her on the internet, but I didn't know what to look up. Searching for "sims 3 alien brain fart" on Google didn't provide a useful answer.

All in the meanwhile, there was a zombie dance party going on in the backyard. Of course one of them worked a brief "Thriller" reference into the choreography. She had seen that video before she died and knew what was expected of her!

Arcturus should really get back to reality soon and make some human friends, if that's even possible anymore in this town. There are just way too many supernatural people in his life.

The Winter Festival

Arcturus had taken a week long paid vacation from work to focus on getting Betty to go steady with him. She would probably find that pathetic if she knew about it, so let's all agree to not tell her. Because the Betty thing only took a day though, Arcturus had all this free time. When reading the soaking wet newspaper that the paper girl had thrown into a snow drift, Arcturus saw that the Winter Festival was in town. At the last festival he went to, someone died. This was all very exciting.

He called Betty and asked if she wanted to go. She wasn't sure if she could make it but Arcturus had already hung up. "Who cares... who cares...?", he whispered to himself. He needed to get there fast and gave a quick search for his coat but couldn't find it. There was really no time for goofing around so he just figured he would endure the cold. The excitement would warm him while he was there, maybe?

Nah. It was 32 degrees out. He was going to die.

Arcturus was kinda mad about the coat and the cold because this was a festival day and it was supposed to be great but at least his anger was subtle. You can just make out a frown here as the icicles formed on his ears while he biked to the fairgrounds.

Just kidding. Look at that face. His blood was boiling.

At the Festival, Arcturus ran into Betty. Hewas happy to see her, sure, but he was also almost dead so it no longer mattered. It was a great moment when Betty handed Arcturus his coat though. She had had it all along for some reason. Arcturus put it on but, still freezing cold, he went over to the festival vendor (who turned out to be Trigger Broke) to buy some coffee.

"I tried to tell you I had your coat but you had already hung up."
"Oopsies."
"Ugh. I bet you're gonna ask me for a coffee too, huh?"

Betty had run to the lake to skate and Arcturus went over to join her. Betty wasn't really skating though. She flew around in circles over the ice. She could actually do what she was doing anywhere. Arcturus tried to skate with her but the game told me that the ice was too thin and he wasn't allowed. I was tempted to make him skate until he fell through the ice. That would have been pretty great.

As Arcturus stood at the edge of the lake like an idiot, I noticed that Betty had disappeared. Turned out that she had to go to work. She hadn't said goodbye to Arcturus and Arcturus didn't care. He was at a festival! Now, if the lake ice was too thin, then he would just have to skate on the rink that was set up for the Festival. What a grand idea.

He stumbled his way around the edge of the rink. There was a woman running around the rink on all fours like an animal. Every time she ran by Arcturus and nearly knocked him over, he gave her a big, "Come on!" After a few laps, a tubby woman came up to him. No words were spoken, but they worked their way to the center of the rink and started to spin while hand in hand. They were truly in la-la land. It was weird and that's not even considering the fact that she was in a t-shirt. After a bit of spinning, they slipped and fell on the ground in a most comical fashion.

She looks scared. He looks like a robot.
No fear. Go limp, Arcturus.
Is she dead?

Luckily, nobody died. Arcturus and the woman spun a little bit more but eventaully she had to go home. He continued to skate around for, no joke, six hours. Night had fallen when Betty called him asking if he wanted to hang out. She was kinda shocked when Arcturus told her where he was. "You mean, you didn't go home at all?" If you think about it, it's actually insane that he was still there. But Betty showed up again ready to have some more... fun? I guess?

They made out under a tree for a little bit until he noticed the half pipe. "Betty come over and watch. Or don't. Whateverrrrrr." As he climbed the ladder, I kinda laughed. In reality, getting to the bottom of the half pipe without falling over would be an achievement. Judging by his awful attempt at getting around the ice on the rink earlier, I expected the worst.

But this is 'The Sims 3', where nothing makes sense. Look at the tricks Arcturus pulls off in this video. I mean, he almost died at the end when his board hit the edge of the pipe and he crashed to the ground on his back, but this is the raddest thing he's ever done with his life.

Look how sour he was about almost dying.

The Festival was closing down and everyone was leaving. Arcturus and Betty weren't ready to leave. For a while they sat in the snow and watched the stars. Their lower halves must have frozen sitting in that snow but they were happy. Afterwards, Betty started to make a snowman and Arcturus got a great idea. He told Betty to wait for his grand return and snuck off into one of the tents that was set up.

Look at him staring at her. Ha.
Arcturus, this date is going well. Please don't do anything stupid.

"Hey,  Betty! Look at me!"
Yeah, he shouldn't have gone in that tent.

Betty laughed and that made Arcturus really sad. Did he want her to take it seriously or something? Ya look like a fool, sir. There was nothing more to say, so, without even finishing the snowman she was building, Betty ran away. Well, this time she flew away, but she did so quickly. "Byeeeeee..."

Goddamnit, why did he have to paint his face in a dark tent with no mirror? Even if there was light, it wouldn't have been a good idea, actually. Don't know. Maybe the pressure to not screw up a date was really getting to Arcturus or something. Maybe he was just way too cold and tired and had finally snapped. Arcturus went over to the fire pit area and started to roast some marshmallows and, after eating and warming up by the fire, crawled into an igloo someone had made to sleep for the night.

Oh, clean off your face, man.
"<sigh> I need to re-evaluate my life."

After a good night's sleep, Arcturus was really hungry, but he just had to finish Betty's snowman before heading home to recollect himself.

My stars, I'm a hungry princess!"
'Arcturus just learned how to make a Grim Reaper snowman', the game tells me.
Uhm, yay?

Oh, what a festival. I can hardly wait until the Spring one.

Taking Things to the Next Level

When Arcturus saw Betty's wings, he paid no attention to them. I was expecting to see some wings in the speech bubbles over their heads to indicate a conversation about why she's a fairy now, but that didn't happen. Maybe she mentioned it on the phone when he called her to come over earlier: "I have wings now. Just don't make a big stink about it, ok?"

Arcturus invited Betty in and while he was making food, she walked right on into his science lab and started doing experiments. This is exactly what I didn't want to happen! News flash, Betty: Nobody's allowed in that room. Arcturus walked in and was not too thrilled to find her messing around with his test tubes and such. I think Betty knew she wasn't allowed in there because as soon as he came in, she immediately stopped, went over to him and gave him a bouquet of flowers. Arcturus was all, "What was I mad about again?"

Look at him smelling those flowers.
After the awkward confrontation, Betty and Arcturus went outside to make a snowman. Betty just stood there pumping her fists in the air while Arcturus worked. He probably wanted to say, "Well, I'm dying of cold and my hands are actually dead now so, unless those wings prevent you from helping,...?" But, even without saying that out loud, Betty started to lend a hand. And as they were building, I thought of how strange it was that they were finally, maybe, actually having a little fun as a couple. This just might be the first date that Betty doesn't literally run away from.

They finished the snowman and Betty put her hand to her ear, shut her eyes and started swaying. She was really feeling it. Then she snapped out of it and threw some fairy dust in Arcturus's face. I don't know what that did to him but I'm sure hoping he doesn't start transforming into a fairy.

Arcturus wishes he was in Betty's imaginary recording studio.
After all the snow fun, they went inside and Arcturus got really serious. It was time to pop a big question. He needed to know if Betty wanted to "go steady". This game won't let these two people go beyond holding hands and "shy kisses" until they're going steady. They have sex all the time, but outside of the bedroom, they behave like children. So, Arcturus asked Betty and very obviously dreaded the response.

"I'll just die if you say 'no'!"
She said 'yes' though, so there was nothing to fear. Great news for Arcturus. He couldn't wait to tell his mom so she would stop accusing him of being gay. Good thing his mom didn't see his response to Betty's agreement though.

He jumped into her arms and I thought, "Ohhh, come on."
Arcturus thought "Best. Day. Ever... since my birthday."
Betty thought, "This man can't be for real, right?"
Arcturus went to bed shortly after, happy that he convinced Betty to be his girlfriend and, despite the above photo, Betty was pretty happy too. She stayed up a little longer than Arcturus and started flying around the living room, doing flips of excitement.

Meanwhile, the fill moon had risen, so there was an old zombie hobbling around outside with a cane. (Full moons happen very often, it seems.) I also noticed a little gnome dressed as a snowman standing by the real snowman Arcturus and Betty had made earlier. Don't know what his deal was. The old zombie walked over to the gnome and snowman and because he didn't like the way the snowman was looking at him, he beat the crap out of it. The gnome just stared in silence.

Betty, who had still been doing things inside while Arcturus slept, decided to go home. She had to leave because before he fell asleep, Arcturus didn't ask her to stay over. On her way to the car, she ran into the old zombie and they made scary faces to each other and had a good laugh. I suppose that being monsters they had something in common. Then the zombie got really mad and Betty got into the car and drove away.

Not Sure If I Like This...

So, Arcturus asked Betty over and I am positive he didn't expect this:

She's a fairy now.

Supernatural Life

BMoC
The first day back from France started off well. Arcturus was promoted to the top of the Journalist career track and in doing so, fulfilled his "lifetime wish". While he was at work, I added a new room to his house. It would be his private study. I wanted to set the door so that it was locked to everyone but him, but you can only lock outside doors. He'll have to be careful about the things he puts in that room. I bought him a new chemistry set for him to do some science experiments and moved his Katy Perry poster in there too. This room was getting weird already!

There has to be a way to make that room more private.
"I'm doing these experiments for you, Katy!"
While he was experimenting, the full moon rose. All of the lighting took on a greenish hue and the lights inside the house became brighter. I wasn't a real fan of it, but that's how things roll in this game now. As if it were no big deal, a zombie rose out of the ground behind the house.

"BRAINS!"
"Just kidding. Talk to the hand!"
Arcturus went out to see what kind of trouble he could get into with this creature, but all he could do was ask it to pose in various positions. It wasn't very satisfying. I wished the zombie tried to eat his brains at least. The zombie stumbled off in another direction and Arcturus watched it for a while before turning to head back inside. It was cold out and Arcturus had put up with it long enough. The zombie tried to get Arcturus's attention by throwing a snowball at him, but Arcturus ignored it.

Out of the dark, around the corner of the house, another zombie stumbled into view. Arcturus just stared in disbelief and the first zombie took the pause in Arcturus' movement to get up in his face again. Neither of these zombies were a threat though. They weren't legally allowed to touch him. They scared Arcturus a few times while I waited for one of them fully attack him, but they never did, so Arcturus just walked past them and went to bed.

Moments after going to sleep, the fire alarm went off. The fire that Arcturus had lit for his Christmas nap about 20 days ago had finally had enough of its confines and jumped onto his coffee table. Thankfully there was a fire alarm in the kitchen which immediately alerted the proper authorities. Arcturus woke up and started to get all excited. He broke out a fire extinguisher to take care of things himself but when the flames reached his feet, he stopped trying to calm the inferno and instead ran around the room screaming until the fireman showed up. I sent him outside for a little but he came back inside almost immediately to look scared some more.

Smoke should really be pouring out of that chimney.
The fireman crashed through the door and, oddly enough, charged directly into the flames. He was actually engulfed at one point and I thought he was going to die. Personally, I wouldn't run directly through the fire I'm trying to put out, but I'm no professional.

"I'm here! Where's the fi- HOLY SHIT!"

"Little hot in here. My hair is fire now."
After the fire was put out and everything was alright, the fireman and Arcturus just kinda stared at each other. No words were spoken. They were having a moment, I think. Maybe they were both a little stunned that the fire caused absolutely no damage. It was as if it never happened. Maybe this was just a dream. I mean, Arcturus did just interact with a few zombies outside.

Out of nowhere, the firefighter let out an unholy scream. I thought he was going to turn into a monster which would have been extremely rad, but he stared at Arcturus a little longer afterwards and then left. Was the adrenaline wearing off and he was realizing that most of his skin had melted during that jog through the fire? Arcturus laughed a little to himself and went back to bed.

Laying in bed, missing the gaze of his Katy Perry poster, Arcturus thought about how he had just seen a man lose his mind. It was pretty cool. He had to remember to tell Betty about it. ...Hey, remember Betty!?
