A Familiar Process
Betty's mom, Fatima, asked Arcturus over to get rid of all the ghosts in her front yard. Arcturus gathered his ghost hunting tools and dressed up like a classic douche. Bike ride imminent. He got right down to business as soon as he reached the house. Like hell he was going to be threatened with the electricity bill by glancing at the TV while he was inside. He didn't even step foot on the porch to let the family know he was there. Total professional, this guy. He knew the drill when he saw all the glowing orbs floating around.
Betty was playing in a pile of rotten leaves at the street. The whole yard was covered in gigantic piles of black leaves. Maybe eight piles taller than the average person. I'm pretty sure there aren't any trees on the Simovitch property either. Betty laid down and kinda slid her whole body into the pile, laid for a while and pulled herself out. Arcturus furrowed his brow. It was strange "playing in leaves" behavior, no doubt.
Anyway, Arcturus captured the typical five ghosts and Fatima cheered from the porch. Betty never said a word to Arcturus the whole time he was there. It was about 1:00am by the time he finished and she had gone to bed. Maybe her dad let on about all the champagne bottles Arcturus was suggestively shooting into other dude's faces at the bachelor party the other night. Snitches get stitches, brah!
Fatima and Arcturus talked for a little and then Arcturus started to clean up the piles of leaves. He made about $100 for the ghost clean up but the leaf pickup was "on the house". Fatima told him it was on the house though. It wasn't Arcturus's offer or anything. Don't get the wrong idea. He wanted dat cash.
Under the leaves, cockroaches were running around. Arcturus tried to pick one up and I think it bit him because he fussed about for a while, shaking his hands and making faces. I had him collect another and it worked out better. He put it in his pocket. A message came up telling me it was worth $0. Jeez. Can't even make a single buck off this side job, huh? The roach crawled out of his pocket and fell on the driveway.
It was 3:00am.
The completion of the Simovitch spirit cleansing resulted in a promotion for Arcturus, by the way. It said the "Riverview Town Council" conferred the new title, like it was an emergency vote called in the middle of the night.
"Bob, sorry to wake you, but can you get dressed and come down to city hall? We have to discuss whether or not we think Arcturus deserves to be called a "Spooky Noise Silencer".
*click*
"...Bob?"
Completely meaningless title though. They could have labeled him "Dark Lord of the Underworld" and I'd be willing to bet his next "job" is vacuuming up five colored blobs on some a-hole's lawn.
"Did you hear any noises associated with these spirits?"
"There were some clattering pots the other night. Whistling winds."
"I can't help you. I'm not there yet."
